Morbi, known as the world's second-largest ceramic hub, is grappling with a significant setback as the new year unfolds. Despite expectations of a prosperous start in Vikram Savant 2080, approximately 100 ceramic factories have been forced to close their doors, casting a shadow over the industry. Concurrently, there has been a notable reduction in the daily consumption of Gujarat gas by 8 lakh cubic meters and LPG gas by 10 lakh cubic meters. The decline in demand, both domestically and internationally, has taken a toll on the ceramic sector, prompting closures among the 825 units in the Morbi cluster.
Morbi Ceramic Association President Hareshbhai Bopalia and Mukeshbhai Kundaria expressed their disappointment, citing post-Diwali hopes for a business revival that were dashed due to sluggish market conditions. Bopalia highlights the stark contrast, revealing that pre-Diwali, the average daily consumption of pipeline gas in Morbi was 40 lakh cubic meters for Gujarat Gas, but it has now dwindled to 32 lakh cubic meters. Similarly, LPG gas consumption in Morbi, previously at 40 lakh cubic meters per day, has plummeted to 30 lakh cubic meters per day, signaling a discernible economic slowdown in the region's once-booming ceramic industry
